We have yet to meet someone that doesn’t like this delicious treat. So, we decided to share our two best bread machine banana bread recipes as well as a gluten-free option with you. There’s a recipe for everybody!

The Best Bread Machine Banana Bread Recipe

For this best bread machine banana bread recipe, you’ll need to use the “cake” setting on your bread machine.

Quick note: Sour cream seems like a strange food to add to a sweet bread like banana bread but it will make your banana bread super moist and give it a bit of a kick.

So, let’s get started on some tasty banana bread!

  • 2 1/2 cups of all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon of baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon of baking soda
  • 1/2 cup of sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon of salt
  • 2 teaspoons of cinnamon
  • 2 teaspoons of nutmeg
  • 1/2 cup of softened or melted butter
  • 1/4 cup of sour cream
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • 2 large eggs, beaten
  • 2 or 3 ripe large bananas, mashed (should equal out to about 2 cups)
  • 1/3 cup of walnuts or pecans (optional)
  • 1/3 cup of raisins (optional)

Before getting started, make sure that every ingredient is at room temperature.

every ingredient is at room temperature
  • Start with the wet ingredients first, unless your bread machine manual specifies otherwise. Add the butter, sour cream, vanilla, eggs, and mashed bananas into your bread machine.
  • Next, add the flour, baking powder, baking soda, sugar, salt, cinnamon, and nutmeg.
  • Select the “cake” setting.
  • If you have a nut dispenser, use it for your walnuts and raisins. Otherwise, your machine will beep to let you know when to add them into the mix. If you add them too early, your machine might grind up these tasty extra bits for your bread.

If your bread machine doesn’t have a “cake” setting, try this method instead:

  • Add the butter, sour cream, vanilla, eggs, and mashed bananas first.
  • Next, add the flour, baking powder, baking soda, sugar, salt, cinnamon, and nutmeg.
  • Select the “dough” setting on your bread machine. Let it go for about five minutes or until all the ingredients are thoroughly combined.
  • Add the raisins and walnuts. Use the “dough” setting again but only let it mix for about three minutes, just enough time to mix them in.
  • Smooth out the top of the bread with a spoon and make sure the mixture is spread from one end of the bread pan to the other.
  • Lastly, select the “bake” option. Most bread machines have a baking cycle from 45 minutes to 50 minutes.
  • When the machine is done baking, check to make sure the bread is done all the way through. I stick a fork into the middle of the bread. If there’s no batter on the fork when I pull it out, the bread is done. If there’s batter on the fork, bake for 10 more minutes.
