The Other Features

Sunbeam Programmable Bread Maker, 2 Pound
  • All you have to do to bake your bread is drop the ingredients from the top of the machine into the inside bread pan. Then pick your settings and start it.
  • The interior of the machine is nonstick which means that most ingredients won’t stick to the walls on the inside.
  • The rectangle bread pan is removable so you don’t have to fumble around with getting the bread out while the pan is inside the bread machine. The pan is also nonstick so the bread is easy to remove from the pan when it’s done baking.
  • The single kneading blade can be removed so that after the machine is done kneading, you don’t have to worry about the blade putting unsightly holes in your bread.
  • This Sunbeam Bread Maker model has a built-in timer to notify you when your bread is done baking.
  • This built-in timer has a 13 hour delayed timing cycle. This lets you push back your bread baking time up to 13 hours. This helps if you have a big dinner to cook and you don’t want to worry about the bread too. It will still be fresh and warm when you’re ready to eat.
  • This machine has an option called “Keep Warm”. Are you not able to get the bread out of the bread maker right after it’s done baking? This setting will keep your bread fresh and warm for up to an hour.

What Do Others Have to Say?

Sunbeam Programmable Bread Maker

There are mixed reviews on the Sunbeam Bread Maker 5891. Some bakers absolutely love this machine while others have had some complications. We love the Sunbeam brand for mixers, but we’re going to give this particular model 3 and a half stars out of 5 stars.

The most cited advantages of the Sunbeam Bread Maker 5891:

  • This Sunbeam Bread Maker has 12 pre-programmed settings to choose from, so no matter what type of bread you want to bake, you’re good to go.
  • Even if bread bakers forget to remove the kneading paddle, the paddle doesn’t make any holes in the bread nor does it get stuck in your bread.
  • Newbie bread makers are raving about how easy the machine is to use and how straightforward the menu is.
  • Since the bread pan, the kneading paddle, and even the interior has a nonstick coating this bread machine is very easy to clean.
  • The “Express Bake” setting is truly express baking. It takes only an hour to bake bread under this setting. Even in an hour, the bread turns out perfectly.

The most cited disadvantages of the Sunbeam Bread Maker 5891:

  • This is a heavy duty bread machine. It weights almost 19 pounds. It’s also 15 inches tall and 13 inches in width. Plus, there’s no carrying handles on this Sunbeam model. All these factors make it difficult to move around your kitchen.
  • The rectangular bread pan is horizontally shorter than most bread pans. So, there’s a size limit to how long your bread will be.
  • There have been a few complaints that the crust ends up too dark and over-baked, even under the “Light” crust setting.
  • When the bread maker is set to make a 2 pound loaf of bread, there’s quite a lot of vibration within the machine. This strong vibration makes the machine bounce around the counter.
  • The recipes included in the instruction manual are off. Several customers have complained that the recipes require too much yeast which makes the bread collapse in the middle.

Final Thoughts

The Sunbeam Bread Maker 5891 may have a few issues but it’s very affordable and great for those just learning the mechanics of baking fresh bread.
